RESUMO

This paper presents an advanced method that combines coupling-of-modes (COM) theory and the finite element method (FEM), which enables the quick extraction of COM parameters and the accurate prediction of the electroacoustic and temperature behavior of surface acoustic wave (SAW) devices. For validation, firstly, the proposed method is performed for a normal SAW resonator. Then, the validated method is applied to analysis of an I.H.P. SAW resonator based on a 29°YX-LT/SiO2/SiC structure. Via optimization, the electromechanical coupling coefficient (K2) is increased up to 13.92% and a high quality (Q) value of 1265 is obtained; meanwhile, the corresponding temperature coefficient of frequency (TCF) is -10.67 ppm/°C. Furthermore, a double-mode SAW (DMS) filter with low insertion loss and excellent temperature stability is also produced. It is demonstrated that the proposed method is effective even for SAW devices with complex structures, providing a useful tool for the design of SAW devices with improved performance.

RESUMO

This paper presents a Piezoelectric micromechanical ultrasonic transducer (PMUT) based on a Pt/ScAlN/Mo/SiO2/Si/SiO2/Si multilayer structure with a circular suspension film of scandium doped aluminum nitride (ScAlN). Multiphysics modeling using the finite element method and analysis of the effect of different Sc doping concentrations on the resonant frequency, the effective electromechanical coupling coefficient (keff2) and the station sensitivity of the PMUT cell are performed. The calculation results show that the resonant frequency of the ScAlN-based PMUT can be above 20 MHz and its keff2 monotonically rise with the increasing doping concentrations in ScAlN. In comparison to the pure AlN thin film-based PMUT, the static receiving sensitivity of the PMUT based on ScAlN thin film with 35% Sc doping concentration is up to 1.61 mV/kPa. Meanwhile, the static transmitting sensitivity of the PMUT is improved by 152.95 pm/V. Furthermore, the relative pulse-echo sensitivity level of the 2 × 2 PMUT array based on the Sc doping concentration of 35% AlN film is improved by 16 dB compared with that of the cell with the same Sc concentration. The investigation results demonstrate that the performance of PMUT on the proposed structure can be tunable and enhanced by a reasonable choice of the Sc doping concentration in ScAlN films and structure optimization, which provides important guidelines for the design of PMUT for practical applications.

RESUMO

This article presents a general-purpose model that enables efficient and accurate calculation of third-order nonlinear signals in surface acoustic wave (SAW) devices. This model is based on piezoelectric constitutive equations combined with perturbation theory, which can be analyzed by full finite element method (FEM). For validation, third-order harmonic (H3) responses and intermodulation distortions (IMD3) in SAW resonators are simulated, and their calculation results fit well to experimental data in the literature. Then, the generation mechanisms of the third-order nonlinearity in SAW resonators are discussed. The dominant generation mechanisms for different nonlinear signals and the relation between electrode materials and H3 peak magnitude are revealed, which provides an important guideline for further nonlinear suppression.

RESUMO

Wearable energy harvesters and sensors have recently attracted significant attention with the rapid development of artificial intelligence and the Internet of Things (IoT). Compared to high-output bulk materials, these wearable devices are mainly fabricated by thin-film-based materials that limit their application. Therefore, the enhancement of output voltage and power for these devices has recently become an urgent topic. In this paper, the lead-free bismuth titanate-barium titanate (0.93(Na0.5Bi0.5)TiO3-0.07BaTiO3(BNBT)) nanoparticles and nanofibers were embedded into the PVDF nanofibers. They produced high inorganic electrical voltage coefficients, high electromechanical coupling coefficients, and environmentally friendly properties that enhance the electromechanical performance of pure PVDF nanofibers, and they are all the critical requirements for modern flexible pressure sensors. In detail, PVDF and PVDF-based composites nanofibers were prepared by electrospinning, and different flexible sandwich composite devices were fabricated by the PDMS encapsulation method. As a result, the six-time enhancement maximum output voltage was obtained in a PVDF-BNBT (fiber)-based composite sensor compared to the pure PVDF one. Our results indicate that the output voltage of the pressure sensors has been significantly enhanced, and the development gate is enabled by analyzing the related physical process and influence mechanism.

RESUMO

The electrochemical oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) offers a most promising and efficient route to produce hydrogen peroxide (H2 O2 ), yet the lack of cost-effective and high-performance electrocatalysts have restricted its practical application. Herein, an entropy-enhancement strategy has been employed to enable the low-cost perovskite oxide to effectively catalyze the electrosynthesis of H2 O2 . The optimized Pb(NiWMnNbZrTi)1/6 O3 ceramic is available on a kilogram-scale and displays commendable ORR activity in alkaline media with high selectivity over 91 % across the wide potential range for H2 O2 including an outstanding degradation property for organic dyes through the Fenton process. The exceptional performance of this perovskite oxide is attributed to the entropy stabilization-induced polymorphic transformation assuring the robust structural stability, decreased charge mobility as well as synergistic catalytic effects which we confirm using advanced in situ Raman, transient photovoltage, Rietveld refinement as well as finite elemental analysis.

RESUMO

In this work, we systematically studied the deposition, characterization, and crystal structure modeling of ScAlN thin film. Measurements of the piezoelectric device's relevant material properties, such as crystal structure, crystallographic orientation, and piezoelectric response, were performed to characterize the Sc0.29Al0.71N thin film grown using pulsed DC magnetron sputtering. Crystal structure modeling of the ScAlN thin film is proposed and validated, and the structure-property relations are discussed. The investigation results indicated that the sputtered thin film using seed layer technique had a good crystalline quality and a clear grain boundary. In addition, the effective piezoelectric coefficient d33 was up to 12.6 pC/N, and there was no wurtzite-to-rocksalt phase transition under high pressure. These good features demonstrated that the sputtered ScAlN is promising for application in high-coupling piezoelectric devices with high-pressure stability.

RESUMO

Radio-frequency (RF) surface acoustic wave (SAW) resonators used as filters and duplexers are mass-produced and widely used in current mobile phones. With the numerous emergences of the diverse device structure, a universal method used for the accurate and fast simulation of the SAW resonator calls for urgent demand. However, there are too many instances where the behavior of the entire acoustic resonator cannot be characterized rapidly and efficiently due to limitations in the current computer memory and speed. This is especially true for SAW resonators configured with long arrays of inter-digital transducers (IDTs), and we have to resort to a periodic analysis. In this paper, the previously reported generalized partial differential equations (PDE) based on the two-dimensional finite element method (2D-FEM) model is extended to analysis for the periodic structure of the SAW resonator. We present model order reduction (MOR) techniques based on FEM and periodic boundary conditions to achieve a dimensionally reduced PDE model without decreasing the accuracy of computations. Examples of different SAW devices, including the regular SAW, IHP-SAW and TC-SAW resonators, are provided which shows the results of the periodic analysis compared with the experimental results of the actual resonators. The investigation results demonstrate the properties of the proposed methodology and prove its effectiveness and accuracy.

RESUMO

Since quasi-phase-matching of nonlinear optics was proposed in 1962, nonlinear photonic crystals were rapidly developed by ferroelectric domain inversion induced by electric or light poling. The three-dimensional (3D) periodical rotation of ferroelectric domains may add feasible modulation to the nonlinear coefficients and break the rigid requirements for the incident light and polarization direction in traditional quasi-phase-matching media. However, 3D rotating ferroelectric domains are difficult to fabricate by the direct external poling technique. Here, we show a natural potassium-tantalate-niobate (KTN) perovskite nonlinear photonic crystal with spontaneous Rubik's cube-like domain structures near the Curie temperature of 40 °C. The KTN crystal contains 3D ferroelectric polarization distributions corresponding to the reconfigured second-order susceptibilities, which can provide rich reciprocal vectors to compensate for the phase mismatch along an arbitrary direction and polarization of incident light. Bragg diffraction and broadband second-harmonic generation are also presented. This natural nonlinear photonic crystal directly meets the 3D quasi-phase-matching condition without external poling and establishes a promising platform for all-optical nonlinear beam shaping and enables new optoelectronic applications for perovskite ferroelectrics.

RESUMO

Perovskite oxides with luminescent ions hold great promise in optoelectronic devices because of their outstanding thermal stabilities and electro-optic performance. As one typical perovskite upconversion (UC) host material, lead-free potassium sodium niobate ((K, Na)NbO3/(KxNa1-x)NbO3 or KNN) has attracted much attention in recent years. In the present work, a novel routine was developed to tune the upconversion photoluminescence (UC PL) performance by controlling the oxygen vacancy concentration in the KNN matrix, based on the 0.1% Er3+-doped KNN (Er-KNN) single crystals grown for the first time. UC PL properties, conductivity and defect chemistry of the single crystals were systematically investigated. The UC PL intensity of the as-grown Er-KNN material could be enhanced by 20 times after oxygen atmosphere annealing at 800 °C and fully quenched after vacuum annealing. What's more, by annealing under an oxygen atmosphere and vacuum, the conductivity of the Er-KNN sample was successfully tuned for more than 8 orders of magnitude. The super-wide range tunability of UC PL performance and conductivity could be explained by oxygen vacancies which gave rise to Nb5+-Nb4+ valence alternation. Because of the modulated photoluminescence properties and conductivity, our grown Er-KNN single crystals have great potential for use in multifunctional devices.

RESUMO

Antiferroelectric analogous (Pb0.92Sr0.05La0.02)(Zr0.7Sn0.25Ti0.05)O3 (PSLZSnT) ceramics were prepared by the solid-state sintering method by introducing a Y2O3-coating via the self-combustion method. The synthesized Y2O3-doped PSLZSnT ceramics present pseudo-cubic structure and rather uniform microstructural morphology accompanied by relatively small grain size. Excellent energy-storage performance is obtained in the Y2O3-doped PSLZSnT ceramics, in which the value of the energy-storage density presents a linearly increasing trend within the electric field measurement range. Such excellent performance is considered as relating to the rather pure perovskite structure, high relative density accompanied by relatively small grain size, and the antiferroelectric-like polarization-electric field behavior.

RESUMO

Energy harvesting from external mechanical excitation has become a hot interest area, and relaxor piezoelectric single crystal ( 1 - x )Pb(Mg1/3Nb2/3)O3- x PbTiO3 (PMN- x PT or PMN-PT) has attracted continuous attention due to the well-known ultrahigh shear-mode electromechanical response. To exploit the low-frequency application of excellent shear-mode performance of the PMN-PT single crystal, we proposed a Shear-mode-based CANtilever Driving Low-frequency Energy harvester. The device is composed of two symmetrically assembled sandwich structures and a cantilever, in which sandwich structures can be driven by the cantilever. An analytical method was used to illustrate the high output mechanism, and a finite-element method model of the device was also established to optimize the generated electric energy in this device. The electrical properties of the device under different excitation frequencies and load resistances were studied systematically. The maximum voltage and power density at resonance frequency (43.8 Hz) were measured to be 60.8 V and 10.8 mW/cm(3) under a proof mass of 13.5 g, respectively. Both theoretical and experimental results demonstrate the considerable potential of the resonance-excited shear-mode energy harvester applied to wireless sensors and low-power portable electronics.

RESUMO

5-6 MHz PMNT/epoxy 1-3 composites were prepared by a modified dice-and-fill method. They exhibit excellent properties for ultrasonic transducer applications, such as ultrahigh thickness electromechanical coupling coefficient k(t) (85.7%), large piezoelectric coefficient d33 (1209 pC/N), and relatively low acoustic impedance Z (1.82 × 107 kg/(m2·s)). Besides, two types of Time-of-Flight Diffraction (TOFD) ultrasonic transducers have been designed, fabricated, and characterized, which have different matching layer schemes with the acoustic impedance of 4.8 and 5.7 × 106 kg/(m2·s), respectively. In the detection on a backwall of 12.7 mm polystyrene, the former exhibits higher detectivity, the relative pulse-echo sensitivity and -6 dB relative bandwidth are -21.93 dB and 102.7%, respectively, while the later exhibits broader bandwidth, the relative pulse-echo sensitivity and -6 dB relative bandwidth are -24.08 dB and 117.3%, respectively. These TOFD ultrasonic transducers based on PMNT/epoxy 1-3 composite exhibit considerably improved performance over the commercial PZT/epoxy 1-3 composite TOFD ultrasonic transducer.

RESUMO

Scaling effects of low-dimensional relaxor ferroelectric single crystals have induced large delocalization of domain switching, leading to a dramatic increase in pyro-electric performances by 2-5.5 times, and promoting the detectivity of fabricated pyroelectric detectors to an international leading level of 2.21 × 10(9) cmHz(1/2) /W at 10 Hz, 4 times higher than that of commercial LiTaO3 -based detectors.

RESUMO

Ternary Pb(In(1/2)Nb(1/2))O(3)-Pb(Mg(1/3)Nb(2/3))O(3)-PbTiO(3) (PIN-PMN-PT) single crystal was investigated for potential application in ultrasonic linear array. Orientation and temperature dependences of height extensional electromechanical coupling coefficient k'(33) for PIN-PMN-PT single crystal were studied. It was found that the [001] poled PIN-PMN-PT diced along the [100] direction would achieve a maximum k'(33) (~87%) and the service temperature was up to 110 °C. Ultrasonic linear arrays using PIN-PMN-PT single crystal and PZT ceramic were fabricated and compared. The bandwidth at -6 dB, two-way insertion loss and pulse length of the PIN-PMN-PT array were 98.6%, -45.1 dB, and 0.28 µs, respectively, which were about 25% broader, 3.7dB higher, and 0.08 µs shorter than those of the PZT array. The experimental results agreed well with the theoretical simulation. These superior performances were attributable to the excellent piezoelectric properties of PIN-PMN-PT single crystal.

RESUMO

In this paper, PIMNT/epoxy 1-3 composites with different volume fractions were prepared by the dice-and-fill method for application in ultrasonic transducers. The theoretical and experimental properties at different volume fractions and the temperature stability of the electromechanical property were investigated. The highest electromechanical coupling factor k(t) was obtained as 0.833 with the volume fraction of 0.58 and k(t) changed little below the Curie temperature of the single crystal. Afterward, an angle-beam transverse wave ultrasonic transducer using the fabricated composite was designed and manufactured based on the simulation of the KLM model and commercial software. The assembled prototype transducer showed large improvement in two-way insertion loss, relative bandwidth at -6 dB, surplus sensitivity, and axial resolution, which were -24.3 dB, 107%, 85 dB, and 28 dB, respectively, compared with a commercial PZT-based composite transducer.

RESUMO

Relaxor-based ferroelectric single crystals xPb(In1/2)Nb1/2)O3-yPb(Mg1/3Nb2/3)O3-(1-x-y)PbTiO3 {PIMNT [100x/100y/100(1-x-y)]} have been grown by a modified Bridgman technique. The as-grown PIMNT (42/30/28) crystal with rhombohedral perovskite-type structure shows higher Curie temperature TC ~ 187 °C, and higher ferroelectric rhombohedral-to-tetragonal phase transition temperature TRT ~ 152 °C, both about 50 °C higher than those found for 0.71Pb(In1/2)Nb1/2)O3-0.3Pb(Mg1/3Nb2/3)O3-0.29PbTiO3 crystals. Moreover, as a core parameter of pyroelectric material, the detectivity figures-of-merit of PIMNT (42/30/28) crystal are higher than other typical relaxor-based ferroelectric crystals, which primarily stems from the lower dielectric loss, making it promising candidate for infrared detector applications.

RESUMO

In this paper we theoretically and experimentally present a nonresonant vibration energy harvesting device based on the shear mode of 0.71Pb(Mg(1/3)Nb(2/3))O3-0.29PbTiO3 single crystals. The electrical properties of the energy harvesting device were evaluated using an analytical method. Good consistency was obtained between the analytical and experimental results. Under a mass load of 200 g, a peak voltage of 11.3 V and maximum power of 0.70 mW were obtained at 500 Hz when connecting a matching load resistance of 91 komega. A high output could always be obtained within a very wide frequency range. The results demonstrate the potential of the device in energy harvesting applied to low-power portable electronics and wireless sensors.

RESUMO

The phase transitions of as-grown (1-x)PbMg(1/3)Nb(2/3)O(3)-xPbTiO(3) (PMN-xPT) crystals with PT compositions of x = 0.31 and 0.38 under a dc electric field were observed in a polarization microscope. The optical transmissions of the crystals under dc electric fields were measured in the wavelength region around their optical absorption edges. The band gaps of the orthorhombic and tetragonal phases under the applied electric field were obtained. By combining both of the optical methods, the phase transition from the tetragonal to the orthorhombic phase was observed in PMN-0.38PT crystals when the electric field along the [110](cub) direction reaches up to 300 V mm(-1). Whereas the PMN-0.31PT crystals undergo the pseudo-phase-transition under a dc electric field along the [110](cub) direction. The pseudo-phase-transition possibly stems from the reorientation and growth of microdomains in PMN-0.31PT crystals.

RESUMO

In this study, a Rosen-type Pb(Mg(1/3)Nb(2/3))O(3)-PbTiO(3) single crystal piezoelectric transformer is presented. First, we simulate the operation of this transformer using the finite element method and ANSYS. By adjusting the dimensions of the piezoelectric transformer, a maximum voltage step-up ratio of 138 can be obtained at a frequency of 33.8 kHz when the output part is open. Second, we fabricate a transformer with the size of 20 mm length, 4 mm width, and 1 mm thickness to examine the simulation results. It is found that this transformer exhibits a maximum voltage step-up ratio of 134 at 37 kHz, with the efficiency over 95% when driving a liquid crystal display backlight, which shows good consistency with the numerical simulation results. Besides, we investigate the electrical properties under different frequencies and load resistances. When the input voltage increases, a maximum output power of 1 W is obtained with the temperature rise less than 10 degrees C.
